Shooting leaves rookie police officer and bystander dead

GILA RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION, AZ – An unfortunate incident occurred at the Gila River Indian Reservation in Arizona with a shooting at a dance in the early hours of Saturday. The tragedy led to the killing of a rookie police officer and a bystander, with two suspects now under arrest, said the authorities.

Still undergoing field training, the fallen police officer was identified as Joshua Briese. The FBI has launched a probe into the fatal shooting. On Sunday, the bureau confirmed that two suspected individuals- an adult and a minor whose identities remain undisclosed- are in custody and receiving medical attention.

According to the police, another officer sustained critical gunshot injuries and is currently in a “serious but stable” condition. Four other individuals were also victims of the shooting incident, one of whom subsequently died. The remaining victims are undergoing treatment at local medical facilities, with their health conditions presently unknown.

The Gila River Indian River Community Council, on its Facebook page, mentioned calling a meeting on Saturday to instigate a moratorium on dances. It is noteworthy that Briese’s father, Dave Briese, was a Yellowstone County sheriff’s deputy who lost his life in a car accident back in 2006.

The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page honored the bond between the deceased father-son duo, highlighting their shared dedication to serving their community. The Arizona Trooper’s Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 32 disclosed that the other critically injured officer was Briese’s field training officer.
