Teen fatally struck by semi-truck after exiting school bus

LIVINGSTON, TX – A fatal accident involving a school bus and an 18-wheeler claimed the life of a 15-year-old student from Livingston Independent School District (ISD), according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The incident took place on US-59 north of Livingston.

The deadly collision occurred at around 4:17 p.m. on Thursday when the school bus stopped to drop off a student. The bus had its flashing red lights and stop sign on display at the time of the accident.

Behind the school bus was a Toyota vehicle driven by a 28-year-old woman from Lufkin. This vehicle was rear-ended by the oncoming semi-truck, driven by a 41-year-old. Following this collision, the truck swerved to the right and struck the 15-year-old student in a driveway.

The teenager, who has not yet been officially identified, tragically succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene. The drivers of both the Toyota and semi-truck did not sustain any injuries from the crash. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone else on the school bus was injured or if charges will be filed following the incident.

In the wake of the young student’s untimely death, Livingston ISD issued a statement expressing their condolences for the young life tragically cut short, noting that the district “lost a member of its family.”
