ALAMO HEIGHTS, TX – A teenager was shot in the neck early Sunday morning when a homeowner and his son confronted him and two other suspects who were trying to break into cars in Alamo Heights.
According to local authorities, two of the suspects were examining vehicles for unlocked doors in the 200 block of Wildrose Avenue, while the third suspect waited nearby in a stolen vehicle, ready to make a quick getaway.
The father and son disrupted the suspects’ activities, prompting the suspects to attempt to flee the scene. Armed with handguns, the would-be burglars reportedly fired warning shots to deter the residents from pursuing them. However, the 16-year-old alleged getaway driver was struck in the neck during the chaos. There is currently no update on the severity of his injury.
The shot teenager was reportedly on probation for previous vehicle burglary and theft offenses and had his probation revoked following the recent incident. He is now being held in juvenile detention as authorities determine the charges against him.
The local police department revealed that the vehicle used in the attempted burglary was unlocked with its keys within, providing the suspects an easy escape route. Incidents of vehicle burglaries and thefts are on the rise, particularly due to car owners leaving their vehicles unlocked. Authorities are reminding residents to keep their vehicles locked when not in use and to avoid leaving valuable possessions in plain sight, whether the car is locked or not.
