A Louisiana man has been charged with multiple counts after allegedly shooting a 14-year-old girl in the back of the head. The girl was shot while she was playing hide-and-seek with friends on his property. The suspect, David Doyle, 58, reportedly told the police that he opened fire after seeing “shadows.”
Doyle is facing charges of aggravated battery, four counts of firearm-related aggravated assault, and the illegal discharge of a firearm. The shooting took place on Sunday morning in Starks, a small town close to the Texas border, where police responded to reports of gunfire.
Detectives from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office found that several young people were playing hide-and-seek in the area and had hidden on the neighbor’s property. The 14-year-old girl, who was injured in the shooting, is recovering well, according to her family’s statement to KPLC-TV.
The shooting occurred on a dead-end road with only three residents, including the suspect, the girl’s family, and a relative. Doyle remains in custody at the Calcasieu Correctional Center, with his bond set at $300,000.
