Authorities said there is no risk to the public as investigators work to determine how two relatives died inside the Martha Lane residence.
ACTON, MA — A 17-year-old sought by investigators was located Wednesday morning after an adult woman and a teenage boy were found dead inside an Acton home during a well-being check Tuesday evening, authorities said.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said Arjun Aravind, 17, had been unaccounted for after police discovered the two bodies at a home on Martha Lane. Authorities announced around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday that Aravind had been located and that there was no risk to public safety. Officials have not publicly identified the two people who died or announced their causes or manners of death.
Acton police went to the home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after a family member was unable to reach people there and requested a well-being check, according to authorities. Officers found an adult woman and a teenage boy dead inside. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Tuesday night that investigators did not yet have information they could release about how the two died.
Authorities said Aravind was a third member of the household and was related to the two people who were found dead. Officials initially asked for the public’s help finding him but did not identify him as a suspect or say that he was responsible for either death. Ryan said investigators were still working to understand what had happened and to contact other members of the family.
Investigators were also searching Tuesday night for a green 2014 Honda Accord owned by the woman who died. Authorities said Aravind was believed to have been driving the vehicle. The car was found overnight in nearby Wayland and was later taken to the Acton Police Department as the investigation continued.
The search for Aravind extended beyond Acton. Police in Berlin searched an area near Highland Commons after information from a cellphone ping suggested he might have been nearby, according to NBC10 Boston. Authorities did not find him during that search. Officials had urged members of the public not to approach Aravind or the vehicle while his whereabouts were unknown.
Police maintained an increased presence around Martha Lane and nearby parts of Acton as investigators processed the scene and worked to establish a timeline. Authorities have not released details about what officers found inside the house beyond the two deaths, and no official determination about what caused the deaths had been announced Wednesday morning.
A nearby resident, Dennis Pacy, told CBS Boston that police came to his door Tuesday evening and asked whether he had seen anything. He described seeing emergency vehicles and officers searching the area. Pacy said he had not met the family and called the deaths tragic.
The investigation is being conducted by Acton police and investigators working with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Ryan and Acton Police Chief Douglas Sturniolo were scheduled to hold a 1 p.m. news conference Wednesday at the Acton Police Station to provide additional information. Until then, the identities of the people who died, the circumstances surrounding their deaths and Aravind’s role in the investigation remain publicly unresolved.
