PHILADELPHIA, PA – Tragedy emerged in Philadelphia when a 17-year-old boy suffered critical injuries after a shooting on a SEPTA bus. Police state around 30 individuals were aboard when the incident transpired on Friday evening around Allegheny Avenue in North Philadelphia.
Law enforcement officials believe that this was a targeted attack on the teenager who was shot in the back of the bus at close quarters. The teen was promptly transported to Temple University Hospital following the incident.
Shortly after the shooting, police officers at the scene discovered spent shell casings and blood but no victim. Through their initial investigation, the authorities came to know that the individuals linked with the shooting may have fled in a silver-colored Kia.
After locating a Kia speeding nearby, a police pursuit commenced with helicopter assistance. The chase ended when the car crashed into a parked vehicle at 5th and Greenwood streets. The driver ran from the scene but was eventually apprehended by the police.
Police also speculate the involvement of a second suspect who fled the scene before the car crashed, leaving behind a coat. A firearm and a collection of spent shell casings thought to be linked with the shooting were discovered in this area.
Evidence suggests that shooting may have occurred both inside and outside the bus, but the authorities are still fitting the pieces together. The active investigation includes reviewing available security footage from the SEPTA bus.
