HOUSTON, TX – Houston authorities are probing a fatal shooting incident that led to the untimely death of a young woman during a local car club gathering across the street from Grimes Park in southeast Houston.
The incident took place near Grimes Park on the southeast end of Houston, on the 5100 block of Reed Road, at around 6:45 p.m. The deceased woman has been identified as 19-year-old Makala Lacy by her family.
Lieutenant J.P. Horelica of the Houston Police Department reported that on arrival at the scene, responding officers encountered Lacy in the median, suffering from several gunshot wounds. The officers navigated their way through the gathered crowd to reach Lacy.
Despite efforts by officers and emergency personnel to provide immediate medical assistance, Lacy was pronounced dead at the accident’s location.
Horelica revealed they identified the suspected shooter and his vehicle from witness accounts. Following a phone conversation with the alleged perpetrator, the suspect turned himself in at a local police station a few hours after the incident. Currently, he is being interviewed by HPD and no charges have been filed as of yet.
Horelica provided further details indicating that Lacy was shot at least three times in the presence of a significant crowd at the park and the car club gathering.
Lacy’s mother, Chandra Williams, revealed an important detail in the case. She said Lacy had borrowed her truck that day and was expected back at 6:30 p.m. She never returned home.
Asserting her desire for justice, Williams sent out a message to her daughter’s killer, “I just want to say to the coward that shot my baby…It will be justice for Makala.”
