Police identified Angelica Reyes as the victim and Nicholas Uribe as the suspect after both were found fatally shot inside a Fresno home.
FRESNO, CA — Fresno police have identified a man and woman found dead inside an east-central Fresno home as 42-year-old Nicholas Uribe and 42-year-old Angelica Reyes, saying investigators determined the deaths were the result of a domestic violence-related murder-suicide.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting near Burgan Avenue and Fountain Way at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, according to police. Officers entered the home and found Uribe and Reyes suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel attempted to save them, but both were pronounced dead. Police identified Reyes as the victim and Uribe as the suspect.
Investigators said Uribe shot and killed Reyes before dying by suicide, according to Fresno police accounts reported by local news organizations. Authorities have not publicly disclosed what happened before the gunfire or what may have led to the shooting. Police have described the case as a domestic violence incident and said the circumstances remain under investigation.
A person who called 911 after hearing gunshots told dispatchers that Uribe and Reyes were husband and wife, according to ABC30. Authorities have not publicly released additional details about their relationship. Neighbors told the station that the two had at least one young child together and said authorities had informed them that the child was accounted for.
The shooting drew a large police response to the residential neighborhood. Patrol vehicles converged on the area, and the street was blocked for hours while detectives and crime scene personnel worked at the home. Residents described the area as normally quiet and said the deaths came as a shock.
ABC30 reported that Uribe worked as a probation officer for Madera County. The station said an image from 2025 showed him being recognized as an employee of the quarter for his work in the Juvenile Services Division. A Madera County Probation vehicle was seen parked in the driveway of the Fresno home the day after the shooting.
Neighbor Ray Marin described the deaths as an “unfortunate tragedy” in an interview with ABC30. Another neighbor, Robin Ploharz, said she returned home to find police and crime scene investigators in the neighborhood and described relatives of the couple who lived nearby as a well-liked family.
Fresno police classified the case as the city’s 18th homicide investigation of 2026, according to a department news release cited by GV Wire. Detectives have not announced evidence of another person being involved, and no arrest is expected based on the department’s current determination that the deaths resulted from a murder-suicide. Police have not publicly detailed whether officers had previously responded to the residence.
Investigators have also not released a suspected motive or a more detailed account of the events inside the home. The investigation remained open after the identities were announced, with detectives continuing to seek information that could clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
