Police found four people with gunshot wounds inside a Forbes Road home after an emergency call Thursday morning.
GASTON COUNTY, NC — Two people were reported dead and two others critically wounded after police found four people shot inside a Gaston County home Thursday morning, according to law enforcement information reported by local and national news organizations.
Gaston County Communications received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 2600 block of Forbes Road at about 8:43 a.m. Sept. 10. Patrol officers arrived about five minutes later and found four people with gunshot wounds inside the residence. Officers secured the scene and began lifesaving measures until fire and emergency medical crews arrived, police said.
Initial statements from Gaston County police did not identify the victims or describe their conditions. Later reporting, citing police, said two people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Authorities had not publicly released the victims’ names as of early Friday.
Police told the New York Post that the people involved knew one another and that investigators considered the shooting an isolated incident. Authorities also said they had identified a person of interest and did not know of an ongoing threat to the surrounding community. Police had not publicly identified that person or announced an arrest.
Investigators have not released a motive or explained what happened inside the house before officers arrived. It also remained unclear from publicly released information whether the person who fired the shots was among the four people found wounded or whether investigators believe another person was involved.
The shooting occurred along Forbes Road near U.S. Highway 321 in southern Gaston County, not far from the North Carolina-South Carolina state line. Police asked people to avoid the area Thursday while detectives and crime-scene personnel worked at the property.
News crews at the scene reported seeing numerous Gaston County police officers and crime-scene tape around the home. A construction crew working nearby told WSOC-TV that workers heard about five or six gunshots. That account had not been independently confirmed by police.
A woman who described herself to WSOC-TV as a close friend of a resident said she became concerned when her friend did not report to work Thursday. She later went to a hospital, according to the station. Police have not publicly confirmed the identities or relationships of the people found inside the residence.
The investigation remained active Friday. Authorities had not announced criminal charges or publicly described evidence recovered from the home. Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Gaston County Police Department or CrimeStoppers as detectives continue working to determine what led to the gunfire.
