Venezuelan Musician Gus Ormo Found Dead in Weston Pool

Broward detectives are investigating the singer and composer’s death as suspicious while the medical examiner works to determine a cause.

WESTON, FL — Venezuelan singer, composer and pianist Gus Ormo was found dead Friday in the swimming pool at his Weston home, prompting a homicide investigation into circumstances that the Broward Sheriff’s Office has described as suspicious.

Deputies and rescue crews were sent to a home in the 2100 block of Quail Roost Drive at about 9 a.m. Oct. 16 after dispatchers received a report of a possible drowning, according to authorities. Responders found a man submerged in the backyard pool, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Ormo’s family later identified the man as Gustavo Enrique Ormo, known professionally as Gus Ormo, although investigators had not publicly released an official identification in their initial statements.

The Sheriff’s Office said its homicide and crime scene units were investigating the death. Authorities had not announced a cause or manner of death, a motive, an arrest or a possible suspect. The circumstances were being treated as suspicious, but investigators had not said whether Ormo died accidentally, by suicide or because of another person’s actions. His body was taken to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office, where the cause of death remained pending.

News helicopter images from the property showed objects resembling cords or hoses in and around the pool near the body. Authorities had not identified those objects or said whether they were connected to Ormo’s death. Investigators spent hours at the Weston Hills residence collecting evidence. The presence of homicide detectives does not by itself establish that a homicide occurred, and officials had not announced such a finding.

Ormo’s sister confirmed his death to South Florida news organizations and said the family had little information about what happened. Public property records list Gustavo Enrique Ormo as the owner of the Weston residence where the body was found. Neighbors described the residential area as generally quiet and said the large emergency response Friday morning was unusual for the community.

Ormo was a Venezuelan-born musician whose work centered on romantic songwriting, poetry and piano. His official biography said he had spent more than 20 years working in music. His recordings included the 2020 album “Indomable,” while more recent projects emphasized his work as a pianist and composer. He also released romantic pop material including “100 Suspiros.”

His latest project, “Agape,” was released in 2026 as a six-track instrumental album built around the piano. Promotional material for the record said Ormo spent 12 years developing the project and described it as an expression of his commitment to music. The album followed “Alquimia,” a project that highlighted his romantic songwriting and drew on his interests in poetry, piano and guitar.

Ormo also spoke publicly about his Venezuelan roots and wrote music connected to his homeland, including a tribute centered on reconciliation and unity. In interviews and promotional material, he described music as a way to express emotions that could be difficult to communicate in words. His work moved between vocals and instrumental compositions, with piano taking an increasingly prominent role in his recent releases.

As of Saturday, authorities had released no findings explaining how Ormo died. The Broward Sheriff’s Office investigation remained open, and the medical examiner’s determination of the cause and manner of death was still pending. Investigators had not announced any arrests or publicly identified another person connected to the death.
