Woman’s body found dead in a field

SPOKANE, WA – Authorities are investigating after they discovered a woman’s body in a field near East Buckeye Avenue and North Custer Road in Northeast Spokane. Identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner as Carol Streit, her cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

The Spokane Regional Health District, where Ms. Streit was employed, has issued a statement that expresses their shock and grief over her untimely death. The statement described her as a joyful colleague, beloved by her patients.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies reportedly found Streit’s body in the vacant field, with an unleashed dog exhibiting “protective/aggressive behavior” next to it. The dog was later ignored and deputies were able to investigate Streit’s condition. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further evidence suggests Streit had not been in the field for a long period before her body was discovered. The SCSO added that blunt force injuries were present on Streit’s body. These injuries, predominantly concentrated on her upper body, are speculated to be inflicted by the dog found at her side. However, further testing is required to determine whether these injuries resulted in her death.

As the SCSO probes into the events that led to Streit’s death, the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection (SCRAPS) is currently holding the dog. The SCSO also assures residents that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
