11-year-old boy killed in home shooting

PAULDING COUNTY, GA – Authorities said an 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in his own house late Monday in Paulding County. The law enforcement said the incident took place when the boy and his family were home.

In this tragic incident, Shareeda Alexander Dorsey, her spouse, and their 9 kids were all inside their residence when they suddenly heard a loud bang on their door, shortly followed by gunfire. Alexander-Dorsey said she immediately told her children to take cover and dialed 911 when she heard the shots outside.

The gunfire left bullet holes in the exterior walls of the residence located in the Smallwood Farms neighborhood, one of which struck 11-year-old Zander Whatley.

Zander was found critically injured in the Ruth Way home. Zander received immediate medical attention and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival.

According to family statements, the shooter could be an acquaintance or friend of one of Zander’s older siblings.

While the investigation continues, the family is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Zander. Zander was a well-loved fifth grader at Hutchens Elementary School, known for his love of school, singing, and his deep spiritual beliefs.
