Attorney Drowns On Accident While Swimming Near Home With Teen Son

Prominent Georgia attorney Page Pate drowns in rip current while swimming with son – New York Post

Page Pate, 55, a prominent Georgia defense attorney, drowned over the weekend while swimming in waters near his coastal home. Pate’s death was confirmed by his law firm Tuesday. “There’s no easy way to get rid of that hurt,” said his legal partner Tom Church.

Pate drowned Sunday while swimming with his teenage son on St. Simons Island. He was swept out into a rip current while swimming at Gould’s Inlet beach in St. Simons Island, Georgia, on Sunday. The son swam back to shore unharmed, but Pate suffered. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Pate was a criminal defense attorney who provided expert commentary and analysis to media organizations. He was described as “a larger-than-life person and attorney” by Jason Sheffield.

Pate’s law firm described him as a trial lawyer of more than 25 years, a founding member of the Georgia Innocence Project, and a trusted legal voice for many local and national media organizations. He was also a “fierce advocate for the criminally accused and unjustly convicted,” the organization said.

Pate was an incredible lawyer and person, said state Sen. Jen Jordan, who briefly practiced with Pate more than a decade ago. Pate is survived by his wife and two sons.
