A shocking and horrifying incident took place in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city. An ax-wielding man went on a rampage, terrorizing three Chinese restaurants on Monday night. This resulted in four people reportedly being rushed to the hospital.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m., when the man stormed into the Zhangliang Malatang, Yue’s Dumpling Kitchen, and Maya Hotpot restaurants. He randomly swung his ax at diners without any apparent reason.
A witness recounted the terrifying moments at Maya Hotpot. She shared that she and her friend were enjoying a meal when the man suddenly attacked her friend with an ax. The people in the restaurant stood up in alarm, and one of them yelled out to the attacker, questioning his motives and actions. Unfazed, the attacker struck the witness’s friend again.
By Tuesday, three of the injured individuals were reported to be in stable condition at North Shore and Auckland hospitals. Thankfully, one person has already been discharged.
The New Zealand Police responded promptly and managed to arrest the attacker. The suspect, a 24-year-old man, was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. He is initially facing charges of wounding with the intent to cause severe bodily harm, but the police anticipate more charges will be added.
As of now, the police have not provided any information on what motivated the suspect.
