LAKE GEORGE, NY – A tour bus en route to New York City from Montreal, Canada, overturned Friday afternoon on Interstate 87, a highway in Lake George, Warren County, New York, leaving one person dead and 11 injured, according to state police.
The incident occurred a little before 1 p.m. on the Adirondack Northway, state police revealed in a press release. The exact circumstances leading up to the fatal crash have not been disclosed yet.
Video footage from the scene depicted a sizable white and green tour bus lying on its side as emergency services swiftly arrived to handle the situation.
There were 24 people onboard the Skyway Coach Line tour bus at the time of the accident. State police have confirmed one fatality from the tragedy. One passenger, critically injured, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, while ten others sustained minor injuries.
In acknowledgment of the efforts of the first responders, Governor Kathy Hochul posted, “I join New Yorkers in praying for all involved in this horrific incident & am grateful for the heroic efforts of our first responders.”
She also stated that police and Department of Transportation workers were operating rescue actions at the site. Consequently, the southbound highway was shut down between exits 23 and 22.
State police are calling on anyone who might have witnessed the crash, or the bus just before the accident, to contact the New York State Police at Troop G Headquarters.
