CHARLESTON, WV – A fatal stabbing incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Charleston, resulting in one death. The Charleston Police Department arrived at the scene and responded to the violent attack, which took place in the 1100 block of Quarrier Street shortly after 1 p.m.
Upon arrival, the police found 27-year-old Jackie James Cummings of Duck, West Virginia, suffering from a stab wound to his upper leg. Cummings was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The police department’s investigation revealed that the incident began with a dispute inside the Manna Meal soup kitchen, located within St. John’s Episcopal Church. Cummings and another individual were involved in the altercation and were asked to leave the premises. The verbal altercation continued in the parking lot after both individuals had left the building.
According to the police, Cummings brandished a knife with the intention of stabbing the other individual. However, the other individual managed to push Cummings away, causing him to fall and inadvertently stab himself in the upper leg with his own knife.
The police have accounted for all parties involved in the incident and have stated that no charges will be filed at this time. The case has been forwarded to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.
