Man and woman found dead inside hotel housing homeless people

DENVER, CO – Two individuals- a man and a woman- were discovered dead inside an east Denver hotel on Saturday evening. Officers were informed about the tragic discovery at 9:22 p.m. and immediately attended to the scene at 4040 Quebec Street, informed Kurt Barnes, Denver Police Department’s spokesperson.

The location of the incident is the address for what was formerly the Doubletree by Hilton at Denver Central Park, now functioning as a transitional housing center. The shift to the housing center was initiated towards the end of 2023, consequent to the recommendation of a town hall dialogue held in October of the same year. It falls under the wider initiative of the Colorado state legislature, sanctioning a considerable $50 million in 2022 to establish five such transitional centers in the Denver metropolitan area, now known as the Denver Navigation Campus.

The property’s function doesn’t just encompass transitional housing. Notably, the ballroom of the hotel serves as a warming shelter during severe winters.

After the reported incident on Saturday, enforcement authorities have been tight-lipped about further details but have assured that investigations are ongoing to understand the event’s circumstances. Barnes highlighted the investigative focus but offered some assurance stating that the department does not perceive any immediate threat to the community.

The Denver Police Department encourages anyone with information about the incident to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.
