Mass shooting leaves 2 dead, 5 injured

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Authorities are continuing the hunt for a suspect involved in a mass shooting in Washington, D.C., that resulted in two fatalities and five injuries on Sunday, according to law enforcement reports.

The violent shooting occurred near the intersection of 7th and P Streets, located in the city’s northwest area close to downtown. Jeffrey Carroll, Executive Assistant Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department in D.C., relayed this information at a brief press briefing conducted at the scene.

A mass shooting, as defined by Gun Violence Archive standards, involves at least four victims, excluding the perpetrator. Information about the types of injuries endured by the five victims remained undisclosed for several hours after the incident.

Police were on the scene of the event at approximately 3 a.m. ET, as per Carroll. The two victims who died did so upon arrival at the hospital. The police are withholding identity details for all seven involved, aside from sharing that the five injured individuals are adults.

Authorities are actively looking for a man spotted fleeing south on 7th Street, away from the shooting site. Carroll has requested anyone with potential leads or witness accounts to contact the department.
