Police said the wounded 37-year-old man was hospitalized and taken into custody after entering a northwest Milwaukee residence.
MILWAUKEE, WI — A Milwaukee woman shot her 37-year-old ex-boyfriend Thursday morning after he allegedly broke into her home following months of reported stalking, according to police and local news reports.
Milwaukee police said the shooting happened at about 9:56 a.m. Sept. 10 in the 5200 block of North 67th Street, near West Villard Avenue. Police said a 37-year-old man broke into a residence and was shot by the person who lived there. He survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.
Police did not publicly identify either person in their initial statement. The department also did not identify the resident as a woman or describe the relationship between the two people. WISN reported that the resident was the man’s ex-girlfriend and that she said the shooting followed months of stalking. Authorities have not released additional details publicly about those allegations.
No other injuries were reported, according to Milwaukee police. The department did not disclose where the man was wounded, how many shots were fired or what condition he was in after being taken to the hospital. Police also have not said how the man allegedly entered the home or what happened immediately before the gunfire.
The police department described the incident as a home break-in and said investigators were still working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. The department’s initial account did not announce an arrest of the resident or say investigators had concluded whether the shooting was legally justified.
The reported stalking history adds another element to the investigation, but police had not publicly released records detailing prior encounters between the former couple as of Friday.
