Six Injured After Stolen Pickup Hits Crowd Outside Everett Restaurant

Police said four men were hospitalized after the driver struck six people, crashed nearby and escaped on foot.

EVERETT, WA — Six people were struck by a stolen pickup truck and four men suffered serious injuries early Sunday after a large fight broke out outside a North Everett restaurant, according to police.

Everett police said the violence unfolded around 2 a.m. Oct. 11 in the 2300 block of Broadway, outside El Muchacho Alegre. Officers had initially been sent to the area for a reported assault with a weapon. Investigators later determined that a large fight had broken out in the restaurant parking lot and that a patron’s vehicle was stolen during the disturbance.

Police said a man drove away in the stolen pickup and struck six people as he left the parking lot. Four men were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. One of those patients was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, police said. Authorities had not released additional details about the conditions of the injured people as of Monday.

The driver continued for about a block before crashing the stolen vehicle, according to police. He then left the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers used a police dog to search the surrounding area but were unable to find him. Police had not publicly identified the driver or announced an arrest by Monday evening.

Investigators also recovered a shell casing at the scene. An Everett police spokesperson said authorities do not believe anyone was shot during the incident. Witnesses reported hearing what they believed were gunshots during the disturbance, but police had not released evidence establishing that anyone was wounded by gunfire.

Witness accounts described a chaotic fight involving multiple people in the parking area before the vehicle struck the group. Police have not said what started the confrontation, how many people took part in the fight or whether the driver was involved in the dispute before the vehicle was stolen.

The case remained under investigation by detectives with the Everett Police Traffic Safety Unit. Authorities have not announced criminal charges, and police have released few details about the man they are seeking. The circumstances surrounding the vehicle theft and the sequence of events immediately before the six people were struck also remained under investigation.

Initial police information Sunday said four people had been transported to the hospital after several people were struck. Updated information released Monday clarified that six people were hit by the vehicle and that four men suffered injuries serious enough to require hospitalization.

Everett police continued searching for the driver Monday and asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the department. No arrest had been reported, and investigators had not announced a suspected motive for the driver’s actions.
