Tragic hit-and-run crash kills 5-year-old kid, teen left critically injured

In a heart-wrenching incident in South Los Angeles, a 5-year-old girl lost her life and a 17-year-old girl was critically injured in a hit-and-run collision. The incident occurred at Main Street and Colden Avenue around 7:45 p.m., as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash involved a family of four. Among them were a 32-year-old mother, her two kids aged 5 and 14, and her 17-year-old niece. The family’s ordinary evening took a tragic turn when their car was hit by another vehicle, driven by Pedro Murillo, 26.

CCTV footage from the scene depicted the horrifying moment when Murillo’s vehicle, moving at a high speed, ran a red light and crashed into the family’s car. The intense impact sent their vehicle spinning across the road, prompting nearby witnesses to rush to their aid.

All victims were swiftly taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention. The 5-year-old girl suffered from severe injuries. Tragically, she could not survive her injuries and passed away in the hospital on June 22.

The 17-year-old niece, who also sustained heavy injuries, continues to fight for her life in a critical state.

On June 21, Murillo turned himself in to the police and was arrested on felony charges related to the hit-and-run, resulting in injuries. His legal proceedings are set to begin with an arraignment hearing on Friday.

The detectives involved in the case have requested the public’s assistance in gathering more information about Murillo’s activities and location before the fatal crash.
