Two killed, three injured in Chicago neighborhood shooting

In an alarming episode of violence in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, two young men aged 19 and 26 were killed, while three others sustained injuries during a shooting incident.

The tragic incident unfolded around 5:35 p.m. on Thursday when two unidentified individuals exited a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people. Five individuals were hit in the ensuing gunfire, as confirmed by the Chicago Police Department, while the attackers managed to escape and remain at large.

Among the victims, a 19-year-old succumbed to a gunshot wound to his shoulder, while a 26-year-old, hit in the torso, also tragically passed away at the University of Chicago Hospital. The three remaining victims, a 17-year-old male, a 21-year-old male, and a 26-year-old female, were transported to local hospitals. According to reports, the two young men were in ‘good condition,’ while the female victim was in a ‘stable’ condition.

Witnesses reported that the victims were merely enjoying the pleasant weather outside a relative’s home when the horrifying attack occurred. Deputy Chief Matt Cline of the Chicago Police Department detailed the incident, explaining how the two attackers emerged from their vehicle and began firing indiscriminately at the group.

The shooting, which took place in the presence of children, has left the neighborhood in shock. A poignant scene was captured by a Chicago Sun-Times photojournalist, showing a distressed woman as police collected children’s scooters from the crime scene.

The scene of the crime was cordoned off by the police, who found numerous bullet casings scattered across the lawn of a nearby house.

As authorities continue their investigation, the hunt for the suspects remains ongoing, marking another grim chapter in the city’s struggle with crime.
