Woman and 2 kids found dead after drowning at the Rio Grande

EAGLE PASS, TX – A deadly incident took place at the Rio Grande when a woman and two children drowned Friday night. U.S. border agents claim they were hindered from responding by Texas National Guard troops, as per a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson. After receiving information about the migrants’ peril from the Mexican government, the Border Patrol agents found their path blocked by Texas officials.

The deaths were brought to light by Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democratic representative. They asserted that the deceased were part of a group of six migrants struggling in the river Friday night.

Mexican authorities recovered the bodies of three drowned migrants on Saturday. This event has intensified the existing conflict between the DHS and the state of Texas.

While DHS argues that barriers erected by the state have restricted federal agents from accessing the border, Texas counters that the lawfully installed barricades have taken control of operational areas to discourage illegal crossings.

The DHS characterizes Governor Abbott’s policies as dangerous, cruel, and inhumane and believe their blatant disregard for the federal authority’s immigration rules poses severe risks to individuals’ safety. They urge Texas to stop its interference with the duties of the U.S. Border Patrol.
