The mother and her toddler son were returning to their car after shopping at Giant Eagle, a supermarket, on Monday when a woman reportedly attacked them with a knife, leading to injuries to both of them. Officers from the North Olmsted police managed to arrest the assailant while providing the victims with first aid.

The young boy, identified as Julian Wood, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital. The suspect was apprehended on the spot. She has been identified as 32-year-old Bionca Ellis, a Cleveland resident.

North Olmsted firefighters expressed their deepest condolences over the incident, stating, “Our most sincere heartfelt thoughts are with the victims of this horrible and senseless event today.” The mayor of North Olmsted, Nicole Dailey Jones, also mourned the victims in similar a public statement.

Information about the boy’s mother, including her identity and condition, has not been disclosed. Shockingly, this incident took place at the same grocery store location that witnessed a murder-suicide in June of the previous year.
