Medical Staff Stabbed By Fake Patient At Encino Hospital

Suspect in custody after doctor, 2 nurses stabbed in Encino – Los Angeles Times

Los Angeles police responded to a hospital stabbing Friday and took three victims to a nearby trauma center with unspecified injuries.

A man stabbed a doctor and two nurses at an Encino hospital before barricading himself in a room for several hours, according to authorities. The victims are stable and being treated at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

LAPD Valley Traffic Division officers investigated a report of a possible traffic collision on Ventura Boulevard. The alleged attacker entered to “seek treatment” after this reported car crash. However, this was a ruse to allow him entrance into the hospital.

Police cornered the suspect alone in the emergency room of an Encino hospital, and a standoff with the suspect lasted for hours before the man was taken into custody. The motive for the attack is unknown, police said.

A tactical team barricaded the suspect inside a closet and forced him out. A special weapons and tactics team used specialized equipment to approach the suspect in a safer way while still having partial control of their body.

Police spent four hours and utilized several officers in an attempt to arrest the perpetrator. The suspect was then taken to another hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.

Gunman Murders 2 Women And Then Kills Himself

Iowa gunman kills ex-girlfriend, another woman, then himself in church parking lot, sheriff says – CNN

Johnathan Lee Whitlatch, 33, shot and killed two women outside Cornerstone Church on the outskirts of Ames, Iowa, before shooting himself. The women were friends and students at Iowa State University, as well as members of the church’s community.

The shooter turned the gun on himself after shooting two women.

The shooting happened during the first summer night of a college ministry program. The shooter made no apparent effort to go into the church, Fitzgerald said.

The shooting at a church in Iowa was the result of a “domestic situation” between the Whitlach and one of the women, said the sheriff. The shooter used a 9mm handgun.

The investigation continues as police take Whitlatch’s pickup, ammunition and a receipt from a business in West Des Moines into evidence.

Whitlatch was accused of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and was set to go to trial next month. He has a previous child custody dispute with a different woman and got divorced from yet another woman.

Cornerstone Pastor Mark Vance released the following statement: “Tonight, a tragic shooting occurred involving two young members of our Cornerstone Church community. We are praying for everyone affected and we appreciate the responsiveness of law enforcement.”

Gov. Kim Reynolds released the following statement on Facebook, asking for prayers for the victims and their families.

The shooting follows several other mass shootings in the U.S. in recent weeks. One of those attacks killed 19 people at an elementary school, and another killed three people at a medical office.

Grandfather of Uvalde School Shooter Tells All

Grandfather of Texas school shooter shows inside his blood-soaked home and reveals bullet went through her cheek and exited under her ear – but she’s awake and communicating -Daily Mail

A journalist shared footage from inside the house where Salvador Rolando Ramos shot his grandmother, who called 911.

Salvador Ramos shot his grandmother in the face before killing 21 people at a nearby elementary school. Blood stains still mark the inside of the home.

A neighbor of Ramos’ named Eduardo Trinidad said the teen got into an argument with his grandmother the morning of the shooting. Text messages reveal that the argument was over something minor and of no real significance.

After shooting his grandmother, Ramos messaged a girl in Germany and shared his plans. The teen messaged a girl he’d met online about his plans to “shoot up a elementary school”. She wasn’t sure if he was serious.

Salvador Ramos legally purchased two AR-15 style rifles and more than 300 rounds of ammunition after his 18th birthday last week.

Rolando Reyes, 72, said he did not know his grandson had recently purchased two AR-15-style rifles. He said he would have reported the weapons to authorities.

Reyes said his grandson was quiet and did not go to school this past year. He said he did not know how to drive and had no driver’s license.

Despite not being able to drive, Ramos fled in his grandmother’s truck to attack the students and staff at Robb Elementary school.

New videos show parents breaking through yellow police tape and yelling at officers to go into the building, where the shooting took place.

Mountain Lion Found By Janitor In California Classroom

California mountain lion in classroom at Pescadero High School – KCRA Sacramento

A curious mountain lion entered a Northern California high school classroom early in the morning, prior to everyone’s typical arrival. The animal was estimated to be approximately 40 pounds and appeared to be “lost and scared”.

A janitor corralled a curious mountain lion in an empty classroom after it entered a Northern California high school Wednesday morning, authorities said.

A juvenile mountain lion was spotted by the custodian opening Pescadero High for the school day. The custodian shut the door behind the mountain lion to keep it confined and then contacted authorities for help.

The cougar was isolated in a classroom and did not pose a threat to students or staff.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was notified to remove the mountain lion from the school. It is a young puma and in poor health.

Two days before the school year was to end, this cub was found in the hallway. Authorities don’t know whether the cat can survive in the wild.

The animal, believed to be a male, around 4 to 6 months old, was transported to the Oakland Zoo for a health assessment.

End-of-the-year events such as finals and graduation have been postponed because of the incident. Luckily, no staff members or students were harmed by the sudden appearance of the mountain lion.

Florida Man Killed By Alligator After Trying To Get Back His Frisbee

Alligator Kills Florida Man Retrieving Frisbees in Lake, Officials Say – The New York Times

A 47-year-old man was attacked by an alligator while retrieving Frisbees from a lake in a Florida public park. He was a “transient” who made a living by selling the Frisbees to people who played disc golf at a course that runs parallel to the lake.

The man tried to enter a lake in John S. Taylor Park to retrieve discs in exchange for pay. However, his efforts were interrupted by this alligator attack.

The lake goes down six to eight feet, and one hole in the disc golf course is close to the water. Alligators are active during mating season, and a wildlife trapper removed an alligator from the area after the man’s body was found.

The Largo Police Department started investigating the deadly attack on Tuesday morning on Taylor Lake at John S. Taylor Park. A large alligator was found in the water.

Alligators bite people less often than pets, although there are some horror stories that remain. For instance, a 47-year-old woman was found inside an alligator in 2018 and a 2-year-old boy was snatched in 2016.

The wildlife commission says alligators are naturally afraid of humans, but feeding them makes them associate people with food.

Violent Crimes Rise Over Memorial Day Weekend

After Uvalde, holiday weekend sees shootings nationwide – The Associated Press

Multiple mass shootings happened over the Memorial Day weekend in areas both rural and urban. Single-death incidents still accounted for most gun fatalities, but a 19-year-old man was killed and six other people were wounded in a shooting incident at a club and liquor store.

At least two mass shootings occurred in Chicago between late Friday and Monday, and a 7-year-old girl was killed in Arkansas. A young man was shot and killed at an outdoor birthday party.

Police chiefs in Detroit and other cities canceled days off to boost the numbers of officers over the holiday weekend, hoping it would act as a deterrent. Conflict mediators also hit the streets, using social media to identify simmering conflicts with the potential to explode into real-world violence.

In Chicago, Memorial Day weekend typically marks the start of the killing season, according to a violence prevention worker and former gang member. Residents say gangs have taken over and are responsible for most homicides, though poverty and the desperation that comes with it are also factors.

Malik Shabazz, 59, founded the Detroit New Black Panther Nation/New Marcus Garvey Movement to fight crime during the holidays. He said crime is becoming more heinous and people bring their guns and people have beef.

The shooting occurred after a graduation ceremony for Morris Jeff Community School’s high school students.

Three people were shot outside the ceremony on the campus of Xavier University in New Orleans on Tuesday. An elderly woman died as a result of the shooting, and two men suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police responded to a call for shots fired and found three gunshot victims in the parking lot of the Xavier University Convocation Center. A suspect and motive are still under investigation.

NOLA Public Schools Superintendent and Morris Jeff Head of School Patricia Perkins issued statements following the shooting: “This has got to stop. We must come together as a community, as a country, and address the damage caused by access to guns.”

New Orleans Public Schools Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr. said he was “outraged and saddened” by the shooting at Morris Jeff High School.

Teens Injured During Shooting In Chattanooga, Tennessee

Chattanooga shooting leaves 6 teenagers injured, mayor says – USA TODAY

Authorities in Tennessee said six people were injured in a shooting in a popular downtown district on Saturday night. Four people have non-life-threatening injuries and two remain in “very, very critical” condition.

The shootings took place in the heart of the city’s tourism district, less than a week before the signature Riverbend Festival is to take the stage. Patrons ate ice cream outside the Ice Cream Show, enjoying live street music, while others strolled across Walnut Street Bridge.

Police heard gunfire and saw “multiple parties firing” in an incident that did not appear to be gang-related so far. Chattanooga mayor Tim Kelly expressed anger and frustration over the shooting and urged parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts.

A gunman shot and killed 10 people at a store in Buffalo, New York, days after an attack that killed 21 people.

Six people in their teens or early 20s were shot in downtown Chattanooga around 11.45pm on 29 May 2022. One suspect was arrested over the shooting, which was less than a mile from Tennessee Aquarium.

A city curfew was addressed during the news conference. It states that 17-year-olds must be at home or accompanied by an adult from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, and from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekends.
